Success Stories
Health Care Reform
The Campaign for Community Change helped grassroots organizations play a significant role in winning health care reform. We played a leadership role in the Health Care Survivors Project, which shaped the debate in the weeks leading up the final health care vote. Our fieldwork was critical in many states, including Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina.
The Campaign and its partners were largely responsible for persuading three Senators and at least 17 House members to vote ‘Yes’ on health care reform.
March for America
In March 2010, the Campaign led efforts to bring250,000 Americans to the National Mall in Washington to demand immigration reform in the wake the Obama Administration’s escalating detentions and deportations.
In advance of the March, the Campaign and our partners trained more than 1,000 people — mainly young immigrants — and put them into action in local leadership teams in their home states. With the support of these Movement Builders we mobilized people from across the country to participate in the March for America.
The goal was to bring 100,000 people to the National Mall. In fact, the March for America drew more than double that, galvanizing a movement and garnering the attention of major media outlets and the administration.
One Nation Working Together
In October 2010, the Campaign helped organize the One Nation Working Together rally to counter the Tea Party assaults on our social safety net.
The Campaign and its partners mobilized thousands of people to call attention to the needs of working class-Americans in advance of the 2010 mid-term elections.
